Five tips to stay calm during Clearing
Applying to university can be a stressful time, and going through Clearing can feel especially intense – the results, the deadlines, the big decisions. The good news is you’re not alone, and there is a way through. With a little preparation and a clear plan, you can take charge of the process and make confident choices. Here are 5 tips to help you stay calm and focused during Clearing.
Get organised
Clearing moves fast and being organised and prepared can make a huge difference. Before results day, gather everything you need in one place – your UCAS Clearing number, exam results, personal statement, contact details, and a notepad and pen for jotting things down. Knowing you’re ready can ease the nerves and help conversations with universities go smoothly.
Be yourself
If you call a university’s hotline, they want to hear about you. Speak clearly and confidently about your goals, your interest in the course, and why you’d be a great fit. Don’t be afraid to talk about your achievements or passion for the subject – it’s your chance to shine. You’ve worked hard to get this far so trust in what you’ve got to offer.
Avoid comparisons
Social media can add a lot of noise on results day, and not all of it is helpful. Seeing others post their results or plans might make you feel anxious or distracted. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider taking a break from scrolling. Focus on yourself – this is your journey.
Ask for help
Don’t go it alone. Whether it’s parents, carers, family or friends – ask for help where you can. Someone could research courses while you make phone calls, or simply be there to talk things through. Even asking someone to make you lunch can give you a boost and keep your energy up during a busy day.
Rest up
Results day could be a long day, mentally and emotionally, so a good night’s sleep can go a long way. Try to wind down the evening before so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes your way.
Clearing isn’t the end of the road, it’s a new opportunity to take control of your future. Stay calm, be prepared, and back yourself – we’re rooting for you.
